Las Vegas, April 12, 2015 – Sony’s next generation of HDC series camera technology provides the ability to use the high magnification wide zoom range lenses currently employed by HD 2/3-inch systems while maintaining an adequate depth of field to properly show all of the action in live event broadcasting.

The new HDC-4300 is the world’s first camera to use three 2/3-inch 4K image sensors¹. It supports the same B4-mount lenses as well as the same control surfaces as Sony’s industry leading HDC-2000 series cameras. The existing HDLA-1500 series, control and shading systems, viewfinders and master set-up units are all interchangeable between the HD and 4K systems. Directors and operators can keep their approach to live events — including camera angles, zoom ranges and iris settings – while using familiar camera technology.

The new HDC-4300 is capable of 4K/HD operation, with 2x, 3x Super Slow Motion as standard, and higher speeds up to 8x available, to produce high-quality replays and specialty program effects.

The camera uses ultra-high-precision alignment technology to realize three 4K sensor on a new prism. This allows the support of the next-generation ITU-R BT.2020 broadcast standard’s widened color space for future-proof masters or post production options for today’s productions, shown on tomorrow’s 4K services.

This gives broadcasters the flexibility needed for live sports broadcasts: 4K capabilities while maintaining their customary HD-lens operating styles.

Super Slow Motion (up to 8x) at HD ResolutionThe SZC-4002 software package (sold separately) enables the system to shoot full HD (1920 x 1080) at frame rates up to 479.52/400 fps, as well as 59.94/50, 119.88/100, and 179.82/150 fps. Users can save these high-frame-rate shots to Sony’s PWS-4400 multiport 4K/HD Live Server.

A BPU-4000 baseband processor unit receives the camera signals via SMPTE fiber and connects to an HDCU-2000 or 2500 camera control unit. This provides power and full intercom, tally, and return capabilities.Users can seamlessly blend an HDC-4300-based system with existing HDC Series camera systems. The HD signals from the HDC Series cameras and from the new camera system can be adjusted to match colorimetry.

The addition of other 4K products, such as the PWS-4400 multi-port 4K/HD Live server, a multi-format switcher capable of real-time 4K signal processing based on the MVS-8000X, and Sony’s new BVM-X300 4K OLED or PMW-X300 4K LCD monitors create an end-to-end 4K live production solution.

SAN DIEGO, Mar. 3, 2015 – Sony Electronics, a worldwide leader in digital imaging, has today announced several new α E-mount lenses and converters, building upon the rapid expansion of their popular mirrorless camera system.

The new introductions are highlighted by 4 new 'FE' full-frame E-mount lenses designed to complement the acclaimed α7 camera lineup. These include a ZEISS® Distagon T* FE 35mm F1.4 ZA wide angle lens, an FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS lens, an FE 24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS hi-magnification zoom lens and an FE 28mm F2 wide angle prime lens.

In addition, two sets of new ultra-wide and fisheye converters have been announced, one set exclusive for the new full-frame FE 28mm F2 lens and another set for use with existing 16mm (SEL16F28) and 20mm (SEL2028) APS-C E-mount lenses . "These new high-quality lenses are a great example of the evolution of our α mount camera system," said Neal Manowitz, director of the interchangeable lens camera business at Sony Electronics. "With a rapidly expanding system of over 60 total lenses and a variety of the most unique, innovative camera bodies in market today, we are in a great position to build on our positive momentum and bring the power of Sony α to more customers than ever."
This new ZEISS® Distagon T* FE 35mm F1.4 ZA full-frame wide angle prime showcases legendary ZEISS® optical performance in a compact design.
With a minimum focusing distance of approximately 12 inches, the ZEISS® Distagon T* FE 35mm F1.4 is the first E-mount lens to feature an exceptionally fast aperture of F1.4. The lens has a 9-bladed circular aperture, which makes it a superior choice for creating smooth bokeh (defocus) during portrait shooting. It also performs extremely well in low-light shooting scenarios or for simple everyday photographs.
The new 35mm prime lens produces stunning corner-to-corner sharpness – even at maximum aperture – thanks to its advanced optical design with 3 aspherical elements including one Sony advanced aspherical element and a 9-bladed circular aperture. It also features ZEISS® T* coating that suppresses flare and ghosting for natural color reproduction and excellent contrast.
Additionally, the lens has a Direct Drive SSM (DDSSM) system that enables whisper-quiet precision focusing, even at the shallowest depth of field. A dedicated aperture ring can be set for smooth, continuous operation – ideal for movie-makers – or with click-stops to provide tactile feedback when shooting still images. The ZEISS® Distagon T* FE 35mm F1.4 is also dust and moisture resistant design for reliable operation when shooting outdoors.
Designed to produce crisp, high-impact close-ups and portraits, the new FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS lens delivers an impressive blend of clarity, detail and smooth background
The first mid-telephoto macro lens for the α E-mount line, the FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS features built-in Optical SteadyShot (OSS) image stabilization, allowing for pin-sharp images at up to 1:1 magnification, even when shooting handheld. The smooth, quiet Direct Drive SSM (DDSSM) mechanism drives two 'floating' focus groups independently, ensuring extremely precise focus positioning that's crucial for macro photography.
The new macro lens maintains the same overall length at all focal distances – very helpful for macro shooting – and has a focus hold button and sliding focus ring that can instantly switch between manual and auto focus1. It is also dust and moisture resistant.
An ideal lens to supplement any photographer's basic kit, the new full-frame FE 28mm F2 wide angle prime features a bright F2.0 maximum aperture that's ideal for landscape, low-light handheld shooting and much more.

The light, compact design of the lens is an ideal match for Sony's α7 series full-frame camera bodies, with a high-grade aluminum finish adding instant visual appeal. The FE 28mm F2 has a 9-blade circular aperture, three aspherical lens elements – including one advanced aspherical element – and two ED glass elements that work together to ensure excellent edge-to-edge sharpness and excellent bokeh. All lens surfaces are multi-coated to suppress flare and ghosting with backlit shots.
High-contrast scenes always have been difficult to process, but Adobe made this task considerably easier with the Process Version tools in Lightroom 4 and 5. Thanks to revamped underlying algorithms, we now have powerful new Highlights and Shadows tools for handling high-contrast scenes without resorting to HDR or blending exposures in Photoshop. In this excerpt from my ebook Landscapes in Lightroom 5, I take you step-by-step through processing a high-contrast image in Lightroom, showing how these new tools can make this once difficult job relatively easy.

Evaluation
How would you process this image? What would you try to convey? Take a minute to evaluate this unprocessed Raw file and think about what direction you might take (Fig. A).

An early November snowstorm dropped five inches of snow on Yosemite Valley, coating colorful autumn trees with white. The skies started to clear just after sunrise, so I headed to a familiar spot along the banks of the Merced River with a great view of El Capitan. I kept switching from vertical to horizontal framing, and from tighter to wider views as the light and clouds shifted. This is one of the wider vertical images, with a great combination of sunlight and clouds.

I want the final photograph to convey the drama and majesty of this classic Yosemite scene. That will require darkening the top half of the image, where some of the sunlit areas are on the verge of being washed out, and lightening the murky reflection. But although I want to compress the overall tonality, I don't want to flatten the image too much. It needs to have local contrast within the top half of the frame as well as the bottom half. Luckily, the Highlights and Shadows tools in Lightroom's 2012 process do a wonderful job of balancing high-contrast scenes without flattening local contrast.
32x Optical Zoom
"Optical Zoom" means that the lens of the camera is moving closer to the subject. This provides no image quality loss. When you in the digital zoom mode it is like it is taking a picture and then digitally zooming in (results in grainy images). The CanonVIXIA cameras have a 32x optical zoom. That means that if your animal is 320 yards out the camera can zoom it into 10 yards! That means at full optical zoom it can zoom your subject in 32x times.
The Canon VIXIA HF R500 has a built-in microphone, but to increase your audio pickup and quality it has a mini-plug audio port that allows you to add an additional microphone. The camera itself does not have a place to mount a microphone to, that is where the Wrap Around Mount comes into play. It attaches to the bottom of the camera and like the name suggests, wraps around the camcorder and gives you a mounting plate on top.
The most important reason when it comes to adding a shotgun microphone is that you can add a fuzzy windscreen to the microphone. We all know how crazy the wind can get when we are out filming a hunt that is where the windscreen comes into play! It will significantly block wind noise from being recorded. You can not add a windscreen to the internal microphone.

A great shotgun microphone that I would recommend would be the Rode VideoMic with Rycote Lyre Suspension System. This has an integrated suspension system that reduces noise being picked up from the camera functions.
Quick guide on choosing a GoPro for your needs:

1) If you are interested in shooting 4K at 30fps choose the HERO4 Black. Yes, the HERO4 Silver shoots at 4K at 15fps but that will produce "choppy" video. Unless you are shooting a stationary shot with no fast moving objects (like a timelapse of the clouds or sky). Here is a video comparing the 30fps vs the 15fps

2) If you are interested in shooting slow motion shots (120fps at 1080) then go with the GoPro HD HERO4 Black. The HERO4 Black can shoot 120 or 90fps at full HD.

3) If you are more concerned about getting the perfect shot and reviewing it right on the GoPro then go with the GoPro HD HERO4 Silver with the built-in LCD screen.

You might be concerned with battery life and the LCD. Here is a tip: Turn the LCD on and set up your shot, then you can turn it off. When you want to review your shot you can turn it back on.

4) If you are using your smartphone/tablet as a remote or the GoPro remote and are concerned about getting the most battery life go with the GoPro HD HERO4 Black or Silver edition. One upgrade they made to the HERO4s is bluetooth capabilities. Now you can connect to your smartphone/tablet or the GoPro remote via Bluetooth. This is significantly more battery efficient then the Wifi.

5) If you are looking for a GoPro with great low-light capabilities go with either the GoPro HD HERO4 Black or Silver edition. New to the GoPro 4's is the "Low-light" mode that allows you to capture stunning images in low light.

6) If you are wanting the abilities to change the White balance, ISO, Sharpness and Exposure in both photo and movie mode you will want to go with either the GoPro HD HERO4 Black or Silver edition. Set up GoPro on a POV Ground Stake next to the spot you are hunting and let it run a time-lapse while your focusing on your task at hand which is huntin and killin big bucks. Gives you, the field producer, a hands free way to grab some really cool B-Roll.

Here is a shot from a silo in KS next to the lodge at Kansas Farmland Outfitters. In this particular clip we stuck the ol’ Go Pro Hero 3+ on my Flow-Mow on top of the Campbell Cameras POV Ground Stake and let it roll while we we went to town for lunch.(unedited footage) I set up another Go Pro, only intention being to focus on the tools being used in the other time-lapse in action, with my hope being I could visually illustrate to everyone just how easy it is.

↓↓↓ If this doesn’t make you want to take your outdoor production to the next level. I don’t know what will.

"The Campbell Camera Pack" - By Badlands represents a quantum leap in how you transport your equipment in the field. Designed in conjunction with Campbell Cameras- this pack was literally built from the ground up, to keep all of your gear organized and easily accessible- even in the most demanding situations. By combining Campbell Cameras expertise with Badland’s uncompromising quality and comfort, the bar has been raised once again.

KX0 THE STRONGEST FABRIC IN EXISTENCE
We believe this law to be so unavoidable that we have actually gone out and manufactured our own hunting components in situations where we thought the items available were sub standard especially for the hunting world.

A great example of this is our fabric, we call it KXO-32, it derived this name because, that is basically how many tries it took to get it right. But, get it right we did, the fabric we use is guaranteed to be the strongest, quietest most water proof fabric in the hunting world and its Teflon membrane allows it to remain soft and subtle in even the coldest environments.

Our webbing is custom woven and dyed to our specifications guaranteeing that it is the highest quality nylon available and that the colors actually match natural tones that you would see while hunting. Going with a straight black nylon would be so easy and inexpensive, but it would not be Badlands.

HYPALON. OVER THE TOP REINFORCEMENT FOR OUR BAGS
Hypalon Hunting Technology
Hunting Gear + Hypalon = Hunting Gear Perfection
Even though our hunting fabric is the best available, period, it still has limitations. And since we strive to make the best hunting packs known to man, we saw it as our job to enhance those limitations to a level which no other company had even dreamed of. If you are a “Weak Link” in the Badlands chain, it is more than likely that you will simply be cut out.

Thus when it was simply an impossibility to get the desired results from, let’s just call them “high stress areas” we simply cut out the fabric and replaced it with a material called Hypalon. This is one of the highest strength flexible materials known to man (and probably one of the most expensive as well) but around here the giving never stops.

Webbing Hunting TechnologyWe have one word for you Son: Plastics. Actually, it is Arimids but what the hell. Arimid threads are also one of the strongest substances known to science, perfect for hunting, so it is no wonder we chose these threads to sew the stress points of our packs. Yes all the yellow bar-tacks you see all around our products are not there just because we love “warm spring colors” it is because the thread is so dense that it cannot be dyed, however, when one strand can lift 110 lbs we don’t care if its pink.

Now tape and seal all the seams on the entire pack, sew every piece of webbing possible into two seams and you have and equation that looks something like this. Best materials+Best construction techniques + a hell of a lot of work has no choice but to = best hunting packs on the market ~ period. It is simple science or was that art?

CAPABLE OF HOLDING A BOW USING THE PACKS STRAPS
All Badlands Packs carry a multitude of weapons. However, we are particularly intrigued by our own cleverness when it comes to the task of shucking around a bow.
A wide angle lens captures the subject plus a lot more from a close distance.

A mid or long focal length (standard & Telephoto) lens won't capture the same area in terms of close-up width, but will be able to find subjects at farther distances.

Full Frame & APS-C are the sensors that you would see in DSLRs. For the cameras that we are comparing you can focus on the blue and the green that are highlighted above. The blue sensor size represents the Canon cameras and the green sensor size represents the Sony cameras. With the 1" sensor of the Sony cameras you will have more of a DSLR look to your footage because it allows you to get that shallow depth of field (foreground in focus and background out of focus) when used in combination with the built-in ND filters.

Think of 4K as quadrants of 1080p. Four 1080p images make one 4K image. What does this mean to you? That basically means that the camera is able to pickup and store 4 times the amount of detail.

You don't have to have a 4K television or display to benefit from the sensor picking up more of that information. You will see the benefit in more realistic shadows and highlights, more dynamic range, and even better 1080.

Zoom Capabilities
Optical zoom means the lens is physically moving and produces no image loss at the end of the zoom. Canon's newer models the HFG30 and the XA20 offer a 20x optical zoom. To put that in perspective, if something is 200 yards out the camera can zoom it into 10 yards.

With standard digital zoom, pictures captured by the image sensor of the camera are enlarged using digital signal processing. Therefore, as the magnification level increases, signals to be estimated also increase and can reduce the image quality. *** We do not recommend using Digital zoom at all ***

When using Clear Image Zoom, however, zoomed images are captured close to the original quality when shooting a still picture. The camera first zooms to the maximum optical magnification, then uses Clear Image Zoom technology to enlarge the image an additional 2x, producing sharp clear images despite the increased zoom ratio. With this new technology the Sony cameras allow you to get a 24x zoom. That means if something is 200 yards out the camera can zoom it into about 8.3 yards.

Understanding ND Filters

Think of ND filters like sunglasses for your camera. For example, this will allow you to see the clouds on a sunny day.
ND filters give you the flexibility to set the aperture and shutter speed you want, rather than what the conditions dictate. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. The Sony cameras listed above do have variable ND filters built in which allows you to switch between different levels of ND filter.
Although the Canon cameras listed above do not have a built-in ND filter but they do have the ability to screw on filters to the front of the camera. So you have the possibility to add a filter with these cameras.
The Canon's listed above have the ability to add a LANC remote that (depending on the remote) allows you to control: • Zoom
• Focus

• Start/Stop Record
• Data
• Review footage

Initial Thoughts

As the owner of a Sony AX100, which is a really great little 4K and HD camcorder I wasn’t really all that excited when I saw the first prototype of the X70 at Broadcast Asia back in June. You see in the past Sony have done this many times, taken a high end consumer camcorder, updated the firmware, added a handle and then sold it for a higher price as a pro camcorder. In the past, there has in reality been little difference between the cheaper consumer model and the more expensive pro version.

The handgrip on the Sony PXW-X70

The PXW-X70 is different. This is much more than an AX100 with new firmware. For a start the body of the camera is quite different. The right hand side of the X70 is quite different to the AX100. It has a much fatter hand grip. This makes the camera much easier to hold comfortably for long periods. It also makes space for a full size HDSDI output and a full size HDMI output. But the differences don’t stop there.

On the top of the hand grip there is a large assignable button that is normally set to act as a control for the focus magnification function. This button falls immediately under your index finger when your shooting. In front of this is a new larger and easier to use zoom rocker and then in front of that is another assignable button, this one set as a one push auto iris button – very nice!

At the back of the handle there is a small joystick that ends up under your thumb (just where it needs to be). This joystick can be used to navigate through the cameras menu system. So, without taking your hand out of the hand grip you can check focus, zoom in and out, set your exposure and go through the menu system. If only it was this easy on all of Sony’s cameras! Ergonomically this camera is really good, especially when you consider how small it is.

The camera has a nice 12x stabilised, optical zoom lens, behind which sits a 1 inch 20 megapixel sensor. In video mode about 14 million pixels are used, so even in 4K (there will be a paid 4K upgrade option next year) there are more pixels than needed for full resolution. Rather than let this extra resolution go to waste you can activate Sony’s “clear image zoom” function that works seamlessly with the optical zoom to give you a 24x zoom range in HD.

The clear image zoom really is remarkably transparent. If you look hard enough at the image, on a big screen, when it’s zoomed all the way in you can just about discern a very slight softness to the image, but frankly I don’t think this is any worse than the softness you might see from a compact optical 24x zoom. It certainly doesn’t look electronic and unless you have side by side, with and without test clips I don’t think you would know that the clear image zoom has been used.

If 24x is not enough there is also a further digital extender, controlled by a button on the right side of the lens that doubles the digital zoom. This you can see, the image is a little degraded at 48x, but it’s not terrible, might be handy for a breaking news story where you can’t get close to the subject.

As well as the optical stabilizer in the lens the camera also has a switchable electronic stabilizer. The active steadyshot is very effective at smoothing out even the shakiest of hands. But it does tend to hang on or grab hold of the image a bit. So when you do deliberately move the camera it tends to try to stabilize the scene until it can no longer correct for the cameras movement at which point the scene is suddenly released and starts to move. If your using a tripod you definitely want to just use the standard steadyshot and not the active mode.

The pictures are recorded using either XAVC, AVCHD or standard definition DV to SD cards. For XAVC you must use SDXC cards, but these are cheap and readily available these days. There are two card slots and you can choose between relay record where the camera will switch from slot A to slot B once A is full, or you can make two simultaneous recordings on both cards at the same time. This gives an instant backup if you need it.

XAVC HD RECORDING:

The XAVC HD recordings are 10 bit 422 long GoP at 50Mb/s, 35Mb/s or 25Mb/s. The quality of the 50Mb/s recordings is amazing with no compression artifacts that I can see (there must be some, I just can’t see them). Even the 25Mb/s recordings look really good. You can shoot at up to 60fps in 60i mode and 50fps in 50i mode. In 60i mode you also have 24fps.

Considering this is a highly compact, single chip camera the images it produces are really very good. They don’t have that typical small sensor camera look. The pictures are remarkably noise free at 0db and largely free of artifacts. I tend to find that small handycams often suffer from what I would describe as “busy” pictures. Pictures where perhaps there is a lot of added sharpening or where the pixels are read in special ways to make a sharp picture. This makes edges slightly flickery and gives the pictures a tell tale small sensor look. The X70 with it’s big sensor and abundance of pixels just doesn’t have this “busy” look.

The pictures really look like they come from a pro camera. Occasionally very fine, high contrast details like white text on a black background can look a little busy, but this is very minor. Dynamic range is quite respectable, it’s not as good as a PMW-300, but not too bad for a compact handycam (I estimate about 10 to 11 stops of DR).

One thing I did find with this camera is that because there is so little noise and the codec is so good, you could quite comfortably shoot about a stop darker than you would normally and then just bring the image up a bit in post. Shooting a little darker helps the camera handle bright highlights and then in post you can just bring up the shadows and mid tones with a simple color correction to give a nice exposure. I wish I had realized this when I shot the demo video. I would have exposed a little on the dark side and then tweaked the shots in post. There’s so little noise at 0db and so few artifacts that the image holds up to this really well. If your using auto exposure you can set an exposure offset to allow for this in the menu.

PXW-X70 without the top handle fitted.

The X70 is pretty sensitive and 9db of gain is quite useable, so shooting indoors in a typical home or at a wedding venue without extra lights should be no problem. Ramp it up to +33db and it see’s better in the dark than I do, but there is a fair bit of noise at +33db.

As well as being generally rather sensitive the PXW-X70 also has a nightshot mode that bypasses the cameras IR filter and includes a switchable infra-red light, so you can shoot in total darkness if you want.

To see what you are shooting there is a 3.5″ LCD panel. This panel is higher resolution than the one on the AX100 and gives a sharp and pretty accurate image. On the back of the camera there is a small OLED viewfinder. This little OLED is pretty good. It has great contrast and is pretty sharp for a small finder. It’s a great feature on bright sunny days when the LCD can become harder to see.

CRISP, SHARP IMAGES:

The HD images are crisp and sharp without any obvious sharpening, almost certainly a result of having a 4K ready sensor. The lack of obvious detail correction helps give the pictures a pleasing, more filmic look. The camera has picture profiles so if you want you can soften or sharpen the images if you choose. As well as detail and aperture controls there are also controls for gamma (standard, still, Cinematone1, Cinematone2, ITU709) and color. The color controls are similar to those on the FS700 where you can adjust the saturation as well as R, G, B, C, M, Y and K brightness. In addition there is a choice of 6 different preset color modes plus black and white.

The camera can be controlled either fully automatically or fully manual as well as various in between modes. There is a switch on the back of the camera to switch between auto and manual. In manual you can control the iris, shutter and gain by pressing one of three buttons along the bottom edge of the camera and the using a small wheel just below the lens to set what you have selected. In practice this actually works quite well. There is another button for white balance control on the side of the camera with the usual presets plus auto white balance. Just under the Manual/Auto switch there is a selector for the built in ND filters. I recently purchased a A7s DSLR type camera and I had forgotten what a fiddle it can be to use a camera that doesn’t have built in ND’s. So it’s really good to see proper ND filters on the PXW-X70 as they really help you manage your depth of field.

On the lens there is a single large control ring that can be used to focus the lens or to act as a manual zoom ring. The focus is responsive and although I don’t normally like round and round servo focus rings this one wasn’t too bad.

There really is so much to this camera that it would take a small book to go through all the features. For example there’s the touch screen LCD that can be used for touch to focus or touch to expose where you just touch the part of the screen you want to expose or focus on. There’s a full set of exposure and focus aids including peaking, histogram, zebras etc.

On the top of the camera you have Sony’s new MI shoe (Multi-Interface) for connecting accessories like the supplied handle with XLR audio inputs. The supplied detachable handle is really well made and very secure when attached. One small note is that by default when you attach the handle to the MI-shoe the camera switches to XLR audio automatically by default. So if you don’t actually have a mic connected to the handle you won’t have any audio as the internal mic gets shut off. You have to go in to the audio section of the menu to enable the internal mic if you want to use the handle but want to use the built in mic.

If you want to do time-lapse or slow stuff down the camera has S&Q motion that goes from 1fps to 60fps at 1920×1080.

The camera has WiFi and NFC and allows remote control via Content Browser Mobile and simply touching an NFC enabled phone or tablet against the side of the camera will pair the camera with the phone or tablet. In the future following a firmware update you will be able to use the camera to stream your content live via U-stream.

Finally – build quality. It’s really well made. It feels nice and solid, it feels like it will really last. Don’t tell Sony, but I dropped the camera from waist hight while I was using it. It survived, no problem at all.

In conclusion: This is a nice little camera. It’s very easy to operate. The picture quality is very good for such a compact camera, the only thing that lets it down just a bit is the highlight handling. But the camera is so clean that you can afford to expose a little lower to compensate for this. Since shooting the demo video I have been playing with the picture profiles to help with the highlight exposure and I found that bringing up the black gamma really helps as it lifts the mid range allowing you to expose slightly lower.

The large sensor, combined with the switchable built in ND filters gives you much greater control over the depth of field than normally possible with a compact handycam.

I think you have to remember that this is a small camera. It isn’t a PXW-X180 and it never will be, but if your budget is tight and you want an easy to use compact camera this could be the one for you. I think it would be a good fit as a “B” camera or for use in lower budget corporate productions. In addition the PXW-X70 would be a good camera to give to PA’s and producers or to hand off to inexperienced shooters for fly-on-the-wall productions.

A telephoto lens lets you get a good look at subjects you can’t get close to. Great for nature lovers and sports buffs alike, these powerful lenses let you see much further than you ever could with your eyes alone.
VENTURE UNSEEN INTO THE WILD
Whether you’re shooting birds or beasts, it’s hard to get close to most wild animals—and sometimes dangerous. But with a telephoto in your hands, you can get face-to-face with nature without ruffling any feathers.

Tip: Focus on an animal’s eyes to capture more dramatic and emotional wildlife images.

YOUR FRONT-ROW SEAT TO THE ACTION
Season tickets might get you close to your favorite athletes, but nothing gets you closer than a telephoto lens. Whether you’re capturing pros in an arena or your kids in a field, a telephoto lets you see and record the emotions that make sports so rewarding.

Tip: There’s a lot going on at most sporting events, so tightly frame your photo to avoid distracting elements.

DISCOVER AND REVEAL TRUE CHARACTER
Athletes aren’t the only people you can capture with a telephoto. From a distance, these powerful lenses let you grab candid shots of people acting natural. From close up, they take portraits with beautiful background blur.

Tip: Learn how to brace the camera against your body to capture shots from a distance without the camera shake.

More Information

The SLT-A99 DSLR Camera from Sony is a 35mm full frame digital camera body equipped with Sony's translucent mirror technology. This enables it to shoot without the delay of a reflex mirror, and its Dual Autofocus System to continuously monitor and alter its focus in real time. Recording on a 24.3MP resolution Exmor CMOS sensor, the A99 has great image quality and low-light sensitivity, while using the speed of the translucent mirror and BIONZ Image Processor to record images at 6fps in continuous shooting mode.
Shooting with a 24.3MP full-frame Exmor CMOS sensor means you'll capture high quality images with the benefits of additional low-light sensitivity. This sensor provides an ISO range of 100 to 25600 while area-specific noise reduction allows you to shoot at the higher end of that sensitivity range. The combination of this camera's speed, sensitivity and reduced noise make it great for capturing action both indoors or in low light.
Utilizing Sony's Translucent Mirror technology, the autofocus system continuously monitors the image and can alter the autofocus in real time. Two phase contrast sensors, a 19-point sensor above the translucent mirror and a 102-point focal plane phase detection sensor work in tandem to greatly improve subject tracking performance and increase autofocus precision.
For increased clarity and resistance to reflections, the rear 3.0" LCD features Sony's TruBlack technology. It has a 1,228,000-dot resolution for sharp, vivid imagery when reviewing images, or when framing them using Live View. The monitor also features Shot Result Preview, for previewing the effects of your camera's settings before the exposure is even captured. It is also able to tilt up to 180° vertically and can rotate up to 270° horizontally.
The large 14-bit data generated by the full-frame sensor is easily handled by the enhanced BIONZ image processor, to deliver fast speeds and performance. This provides significantly reduced write times, while the increased power afforded by the processor allows for increased noise reduction throughout the entire dynamic range of the sensor.
Using sensor-shift image stabilization, Sony's SteadyShot technology takes place inside the camera rather than in the lenses you attach. This means that every image you capture, no matter the lens that was used, has image stabilization applied. By reducing camera shake within the camera you can achieve shake reduction of up to 2.5 to 4.5 stops, so your shutter speed will not need to be set as low as it would without the stabilization.
Depending on the Sony lenses you attach, the camera will also detect and compensate for its particular aberrations and degradations in image quality. Shading or vignetting caused by the lens will be corrected, and aberrations like lens distortion or chromatic aberration will be compensated for. Each unique lens attached provides ideal compatibility from one to the next.
The SLT-A99's Tru-Finder Electronic Viewfinder features a 2,359K-dot resolution, 100% field of view, and a wide 31.9° viewing angle. This allows it to deliver a bright, clear image in almost any lighting condition, including bright sunlight. It displays information regarding exposure settings and modes, and Shot Result Preview allows you to preview the effects of exposure control before capturing the photograph.
After you've viewed your settings in the EVF and captured your images, the rear 3.0" LCD features Sony's TruBlack technology for increased clarity and resistance to reflections. The monitor also features Shot Result Preview, the same as the EVF.
The innovative noise reduction system used by the A99 applies optimized settings to specific parts of your images based on patterns including edges, textures and gradients. It processes these areas using the best and most appropriate settings to optimize image quality, and reduce noise. This is all in addition to the conventional noise reduction techniques employed by the camera, and helps to produce images with low noise throughout its wide ISO range.
The unique Multi Control Dial on the front of the camera allows you to adjust photo, video or audio settings without producing audible clicks or vibrations that may be heard while recording. Full HD 1080p video is supported with this camera and makes use of the high-speed Translucent Mirror technology for continuous autofocus, even while using Live View to monitor your shooting. The 24p frame rate allows you to create movies with a more cinematic feel, and for even greater control ISO sensitivity, P/A/S/M manual shooting modes, and Picture Effects are available.

Quiet Multi Control Dial
The combination of a button within a smooth twisting dial allows you to adjust photo, video or audio settings without producing audible clicks or vibrations that may be heard while recording. You'll find this dial built into the front of the camera body, below the lens release button, and is kept right at your fingertips when holding the camera in both hands.

Dirt, Dust and Moisture Protection
The A99 employs comprehensive dust and moisture resistance that contributes to its high reliability and long life. Sony tightly interlocked the camera's panels and components, added sealing around most of its buttons and dials, and placed gaskets along the edges of the viewfinder and LCDs (both top and rear) in order to help prevent water and dust from entering the body during rough conditions. Jack covers are fitted with rubber-based covers for better sealing and are organized by function in order to minimize unnecessary opening and closing. The front section of the accessory shoe is also constructed of highly dust and water resistant parts.

Sensor Cleaning System
Should dust particles enter the camera when the lens is being changed, two levels of internal protection safeguard the image sensor. The first is a newly developed coating applied to the surface of the optical low-pass filter. This highly effective anti-dust coating effectively suppresses the attachment of both dry and moist dust particles, simplifying their removal. The second level of protection is an anti-dust vibration mechanism that vibrates the filter at high speed every time the camera is switched off in order to dislodge any dust particles that settled on its surface.

1200-Zone Evaluative Metering
An advanced evaluative metering sensor with 1200 zones ensures you capture balanced exposures in a wide range of lighting conditions, as well as accurate subject recognition when tracking subjects. Choose between the available Multi segment, Center weighted and Spot metering modes.

Two-Axis White Balance
Enabling finer white balance adjustment than auto white balance is capable of, you can adjust white balance using amber to blue and green to magenta spectrums in order to achieve more true-to-life color using almost any kind of light source.

Auto HDR
When this mode is selected, three separate bracketed exposures are made at a time and then automatically composited into a single file. This resulting file represents the longest range of tones in highlights, mid-tones, and shadows. Unlike traditional high dynamic range capture, this mode does not require the use of a tripod and simplifies the entire process into a simple, in-camera function.

Auto Portrait Framing
Auto Portrait Framing automatically creates compositions revolving around your portrait subjects and artfully crops your image based on the rule of thirds, where your portrait is located within the frame, exposure on your subject, and the direction he or she is looking. Face Detection, Smile Shutter, and Face Recognition modes are used in conjunction with Auto Portrait Framing for creating the best portraiture possible in a highly efficient manner. This mode utilizes the Clear Image Zoom function and automatically creates a second image file based on these considerations.

Multi Frame NR and Hand-Held Twilight
Similar in theory to an HDR image, Multi Frame NR and Hand-held Twilight feature a noise reduction technology that automatically composites 6 different images into one file for a reduction in noise up to 2 ISO stops. Once you have selected your desired settings, you can create extremely low light images with confidence. The camera combines these 6 exposures to provide a gain in brightness without the increased noise that is associated with higher sensitivity levels. Since the initial exposure length is also shorter, you can easily handhold for shots that are sharp regardless of the ambient lighting.

Built-In GPS for Geotagging
The A99's built-in GPS feature tags your photos with global positioning data that indicates where and when they were taken, so you don't have to. When you view tagged photographs on a PC installed with PMB software, or on a connected BRAVIA TV with its Photo Map function, the photos are displayed on a map to indicate where they were taken. A highly sensitive antenna in the camera ensures clear GPS reception wherever your photography takes you.

Picture Effects
A variety of picture effects are supported for in-camera image-processing and creative applications. These effects include HDR Painting, Soft Focus, Miniature, Soft High-key, Pop Color, Partial Color (Red, Green, Blue, Yellow), Rich-tone Monochrome, Toy Camera, High Contrast Monochrome, Posterization (Color), Posterization (Black & White), and Retro Photo. They are available for both photo and video recording.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07420462710522441884noreply@blogger.com0
