A new star is born- The Sony HXR-NX3 takes key features from its older brother the HDR-AX2000 including the 3-Chip 1/2.8" CMOS Sensor, dual XLR audio ports, (2) SD card slots and a 1x LUX. The NX3 boosts an all new 40x "clear image zoom" that you just can't find in other professional cameras. Jumping head first into the future the NX3 allows you to use your smartphone or tablet as a remote viewfinder as well as a remote control for camera functions. Outdoor videographers need to deliver content for the web and mobile platforms, as well as traditional production platforms, the HXR-NX3 is flexible enough to handle any videographer's needs.

For long hunts, throw in a couple 64GB cards in each card slot and film for a total of 12 hours on the highest recording settings! And, through in a couple of extra 7hr Batteries you'll have plenty of power to film that recovery after dark!

The Sony HXR-NX3 has a 20x optical zoom that will bring that buck in close, and with the superb optical quality of Sony's professional lens, he'll look just as good 200 yards out as he will on your wall. When more telephoto reach is needed a 40x "Clear Image Zoom" allows you to double your reach with virtually the same quality as the optical zoom. You'll have complete control over zoom, focus and the iris with the three manual rings around the lens. That means you can focus on just the deer walking in instead of the annoying tree limbs in front! Threads around the lens of the camera allow you to easily extend your zoom capabilities with the addition of a telephoto lens. If you're filming in a tight spot, like a ground blind, you can add a wide angle lens that will allow you to capture all the action inside. Don't forget to screw on a UV Filter to protect your lens from scratches and dirt! Use the 3 built-in neutral density filters when you want to have flexibility to change the aperture, exposure time and/or motion blur or to blur water motion.

The HXR-NX3 features three 1/2.8" EXMOR CMOS Sensors. The 3 independent CMOS sensors each handle one of the color elements - red, green, blue (RGB) - improving the color reproduction of video recordings. Whether your hunting in the early morning or minutes before sunset, the NX3 is proven to give you amazing quality in low-light!

If you want to cut down on movement, the Sony HXR-NX3 allows you to add a remote control to control your zoom and focus controls– a must for any professional. Less movement means a great chance of scoring that giant buck! Or your can use your smartphone or tablet as a remote viewfinder and a remote that allows you to control record start/stop, zoom, iris, and touch Auto Focus.

In addition to 1080/60i recording, the HXR-NX3 offers a 1080/24p Progressive Scan mode that enables shooting with film-like results– making it look as if it were shot the same way as your favorite movie! Another unique feature is that the NX3 is capable of light MP4 file simultaneous recording. The MP4 format (720p, 3MBPS) produces an internet-friendly file that can be wirelessly transferred to your smartphone or tablet for easy upload to Facebook, Youtube, Vimeo or Instagram.

Designed with professionals in mind, the camcorder features dual XLR audio ports with +48V phantom capabilities. To increase your reach and quality add the Rode NTG-1 Shotgun Microphone (with XLR cable and fuzzy windsreen). Not to mention you can add a wireless microphone system like the Sennheiser EW112-PG3 to pick up even a whisper. And, if you plug in a good set of headphones, you may even hear that bruiser coming before you see him!

After the hunt's over, insert your SDHC card into your computer. A little basic editing with a user-friendly software such as Adobe Premiere Elements, and you're ready to show the world through Facebook, Youtube, or even DVD. Recording and sharing your adventures has never been easier!

  1. This camera appears to offer more features than the AX2000 but why does the 2000 cost more?
