What is Gain?


Gain is a feature that you can find on your video camera. Gain is a function of the camcorder that amplifies the signals off of your image sensor (CMOS or CCD). It turns the brightness level of your video shot up or down, giving you a brighter image but there is a downfall with gain. The more you increase the gain, the grainer the film gets. Gain is a function that you have to use cautiously. Too little gain and you will get black film, too much gain and you will get grainy film. So you can use gain, but remember it's affecting the quality of your image.
