Copyright Issues

Tip of the day: Remember while filming not to evoke any Copyright issues. This means having anything thats copyrighted clearly seen in your video without the copyrighter's permission.

The following items can cause problems if they are featured in your video without first clearing their trademarks and copyrights.
  • T-shirt Logos and Designs
  • Background Music
  • Product Labels
  • Billboards
  • Television or video clips which play over an on-screen television
  • Storefront signs
  • Trademarks used in a manner that tarnishes their image (important in the outdoor industry)- this includes showing a non-hunting product or logo in your hunting tv show.
How to clear trademarks and copyrights:
1) You need to be aware of all the copyrighted and trademarked material that requires the right's owners permission that you use in your video production.
2) DO NOT RISK anything. It is always the smart thing to do to get permission for the use of those copyrighted or trademarked material.
3) Obtain permission to use and have all the copyrighted and trademarked materials in your video.

Once you clear all the permission and clearance issues you are now free to distribute it to the public without the fear of infringement suits.

This tip of the day also goes to those who are distributing video through the web. Infringement suits can come from Web Based Video as well.

Just be careful and if you ever have any doubt, edit it out!
