Difference Between Standard Microphone and Sennheiser MKH416-P48 Shotgun Microphone
During the Campbell Outdoor Challenge Events we use the Sennheiser MKH416-P48 mic as a interview mic mainly because of its off axis rejection of unwanted sound, and its smooth frequency response.
Main things to look for in the clip:
- Notice how Justin's voice is drastically reduced when switching between the Sony 320 on camera mic and the Sennheiser MKH416-P48.
- Notice the large reduction in room sound, or echo. This is the case even though the Sennheiser MKH416-P48 is pointed directly up at the guys with a metal ceiling behind them.
Something could be said that the mics aren't placed right beside each other, but I believe we'd see similar results if they were side by side.
